5 DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Ideas for Couples
Instead of going out for Valentine’s Day this year perhaps stay in. Make your significant other feel truly special by offering them the gift of time rather than another night out. Plan an evening at home full of fun activities together. You don’t have to be super crafty to make this night fun. Here are some ideas to get you started:
DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Idea 1: Make each other Valentines
Gather up heart shaped doilies, red construction paper, glue sticks, glitter, and colorful markers. Lay out all the supplies in the middle of the table and sit opposite each other. Turn on some cheesy music (think Michael Buble’) and make each other the sweetest cards ever. Don’t talk about your cards while making them. Once you are done unveil your surprise to your partner. Giggle or swoon. Either way it is sure to be heartfelt.
DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Idea 2: Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Make a tasty treat to fuel your fun evening together. Purchase strawberries and chocolate chips. Warm up the chocolate in the microwave and dip the strawberries in it, fully coating each berry. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Once you have dipped all the berries pop the sheet in the fridge till they harden. Make a rule that you can only eat a berry if your partner feeds it to you.
DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Idea 3: Felt Fortune Cookies
Buy some red, pink, and white felt and ribbon at the craft store. Also pick up some florist wire and craft glue. With your partner cut 4 inch circles out of the felt. On each circle glue a piece of wire across the diameter then glue a piece of ribbon over it, completely hiding the wire. While waiting for the glue to dry write sexy, loving, or funny fortunes on pieces of paper. Don’t share them with your partner just yet! Once the circles are dried, place a fortune on the circle. Fold the circle in half using the wire as your guide (the ribbon would be on the inside). Next, angle the sides toward each other, bending the wire at its halfway point and forming a fortune cookie shape. Give each other the cookies and enjoying reading the fortunes!
DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Idea 4: Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies
Before the big night bake up a batch of heart shaped sugar cookies and frost them with plain white frosting (so they have a white background). Once your partner arrives offer them an array of frosting colors, some in bowls some in piping bags or tubes, and bowls full of candy. Spend some time decorating the hearts like the conversation heart candies with sweet sayings. Share them with each other, then enjoy eating your creations.
DIY Valentine’s Day Craft Idea 5: Scrapbook Pages
Purchase 12×12 scrapbook paper, stickers, and glue from the craft store. Then print out a bunch of your favorite pictures of you and your partner. Round up any tickets stubs, theater programs, take out menus or anything of the like that is significant between you and your partner. Surprise them that night with some uninterrupted time putting together scrapbook pages of your best times together.
This year, my fiance and I will be staying at home by the fire in our cozy loft doing arts and crafts. The most important part of doing crafts together as a couple is to have fun. Don’t worry about the end product and just enjoy your time together. Regardless of the outcome, sure to never forget this Valentine’s Day!
