Home Decor: 3 Steps For a New life to room
Home Decor and breathing new life into your home does not have to be very expensive or difficult; some very minor alterations can often make a larger difference than most people realize. That is the type of change we are going to go over today.
This can be summed up in three phases – lamps, wall hangings and floor coverings.
Floor Coverings
We’ll start at the end of the list, with floor coverings. Even if you have carpet, throw rugs, area rugs and hallway rugs can add a presence that will draw attention away from your old carpet.
Look at your living room and try to envision a new set of colors that would go with your current decoration and theme – or that would offset them.
If you currently have a living room that is predominantly earth tones, look for throw rugs and area rugs with bright colors and patterns. If you already have a colorful living room, though, you can offset that by more muted tones on the rugs and throws.
Wall Hangings
Whichever color scheme and pattern you pick for your floor coverings, mirror that with wall art and wall hangings. Do not limit yourself to traditional art like paintings or prints; small tapestries can be great to break up a long, blank wall, and I even saw one person turn American Indian themed placemats into wall hangings that went perfectly with the other décor in the room, basically turning them into small pieces of art.
Once they were on the wall, they looked perfectly natural, though.
If you have bright, bold colors for your new floor coverings, mirror that with the wall art that you pick, and go to a lot of different places to see what is available.
It could also include flea markets, starving artist sales, outlet home furnishings and art stores, and the internet has to be included here.
It is one of those areas where cheap can be just as good as expensive. That is the nature of art, and when you are talking about wall hangings, even those Indian placemats became art, once they were hanging on the wall.
Lamps
The last component will be the most striking difference – new lamps.
The point of this exercise is not just to replace your old lamps, though that may be called for too. What we want to do with this lamp selection is find lamps that are artistic in themselves. Floor lamps give a large selection to choose from.
There are two different types of lights – diffuse room lights and the new spots, and with floor lamps you can often get both types of lamp built into a single stand.
For the spot lights, which are usually LED or Halogen, aim them at the best artwork you have selected for your new wall hangings. This type of light manipulation is what brings the new feel home, especially if you can install equipment so that you can partially dim the rest of the lights.
You may be surprised at how much a difference these little things can make – but watch out, once you start redecorating, the furniture will be next! Make your perfect room today.
Great new chairs and Ottomans can be yours for prices that are lower than you might think.
