How to Make a Baby Gift Basket
When it comes time to select the perfect baby gift, you may have trouble narrowing it down to just one idea. So, why not give a baby gift basket that incorporates all kinds of products? You can select a theme and create the basket around it. Or, you can just add baby products that you think the new mom would like. You can even add in some mommy pampering products too.
First, select a basket that is sturdy and attractive. This is no time for flimsy or cheap baskets. You can reuse a basket that you have at home that is pretty and durable.
Line the baby gift basket with pretty cloth. You can use a baby blanket or a soft towel. Choose colors that match your theme. If you are doing a rubber duckie themed basket, use yellow cloth with ducks on it or a yellow baby blanket or towel. Allow the fabric to drape loosely over the sides of the basket.
Next, assemble your supplies. You will need to shop for items that not only fit the theme but also that will fit in the basket size you have chosen. Let’s go with the rubber duckie theme. You might choose a large rubber duck as the focal point. Then, you can add products in the shape of rubber ducks or that feature the colors of rubber ducks. For example, place the rubber duck in the center of the basket. Prop it up with something sturdy like a bar of soap or a tin of bath salts. It should be higher than the rest of the items. Now start filling in around it. A tall bottle of baby shampoo with a duck on the front is nice. Add in other products like a set of duck-shaped soaps. Stand them up so you have something else tall. Now fill in the base. You can roll up duck themed wash cloths or clothing with ducks on it. Roll into tight tubes and secure with yellow ribbon. The idea is to have varying shapes and sizes of items so it looks like a grouping that belongs together but is not uniform. Add only things that pertain to the theme or the baby gift basket will look like a hodgepodge of unrelated items that got thrown in for no reason.
After you have assembled your baby gift basket, check it for sturdiness. You don’t want items dropping out in someone’s driveway on the way to the baby shower. Next, add a pretty bow. The bow should be big and coordinate with the color scheme of the basket.
If you like, you can also wrap the baby gift basket in cellophane. Craft and discount stores sell this basket-making supply in rolls that look like clear wrapping paper. Unroll enough of the cellophane to cover the whole basket plus more to bunch up at the top. The roll usually contains a two-ply sheet. Open up the sheet so it is one layer thick. Place the basket in the center of the piece you have cut. Gently gather up the sides and grasp in the middle. Hold with one hand and tie a section of ribbon tightly with the other (you may need an extra pair of hands for this). Fluff out the top of the cellophane so it looks festive and then secure a larger bow on the outside of the basket either at the tip or on the side.
