Clean Engagement Ring – DIY
Cleaning your engagement ring does not require a trip to the jewelry store or the purchase of expensive cleaners. You can keep your ring looking beautiful with simple and inexpensive products that you most likely have around the home.
Light Cleaning – Baking Soda and Water
Take two tablespoons of baking soda and place in the bottom of a shallow bowl. Add just enough warm water to make it into a paste. Rub the paste all over the ring, including the gemstones. Gently massage the paste in for a minute or two and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry with a lint free cloth and watch your ring shine.
Deeper Cleaning – Dish Soap And Water
In a small glass or bowl, mix one tablespoon of water with three tablespoons of warm water. Mix until soap is blended. Soak ring in the mixture for two to three minutes. Brush gently with a soft bristle toothbrush for extra cleaning. Rinse and pat dry with a lint free cloth.
If this does not bring out the luster you desire after you have cleaned the ring in this method, you can use one of the other tips without having to wait. The dish soap method is best for heavy build up in the ring from hand lotions or cooking oils that always seem to find their way underneath the band.
To Bring Out The Shine While Cleaning – Ammonia And Water
To bring out the luster in your engagement ring, including the gemstone, soak your ring in a solution of one tablespoon ammonia and three tablespoons warm water. Remove ring from solution after three minutes and pat dry. You do not have to rinse the ring off in water because the ammonia quickly evaporates.
These three simple tricks can be performed as often as necessary without any harm to your engagement ring. All products used can be found at your local grocer and are very inexpensive.
It is recommended, however, that you take your engagement ring to a professional jeweler at least once a year to have it examined. When you wear a piece of jewelry as much as you will your engagement ring, it is important to have the prongs checked to make sure that the gemstone is secure.
Though in many cases, a girl’s first diamond in the one she gets with her engagement ring, just like Marilyn Monroe’s iconic song says “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, any woman should be entitled to have a diamond without getting it from a man. Online retailers like Ebay offer great diamonds at affordable prices. However, when buying something with such value and don’t live in the US, we recommend the use of a personal shopping service. This service allows international shoppers to have their items handled by a mail forwarding service company. From scouting the best deals online and finally sending it straight to your door, these companies make it easier to buy a diamond no matter where you live!
