Decorating Your Home for a National Day
Nearly every country more or less celebrates their “National Day” in a calendar year. The date designated to celebrate that national is usually on the date of independence or a day of national importance. A national day basically marks a nation’s nationhood. Patriotism is very important factor for a country to progress and prosper. If a country lacks the property of patriotism in its nation, the results are usually breakdown of the whole system and eventually the country itself. We have seen in the past many countries broken down into parts because of civil wars. These civil wars were because of the direct result of no love for the nation of that particular country. I have been around the world quite a lot because of my love of travelling and photography. I have observed that countries that are able to make it through tough time are the nations that stick together. The patriotism in those nations is worth an example. Ireland and Turkey are one of the biggest examples of patriotic nations. They love their country and whosoever is part of that country holding the nationality.
I have seen in many of the countries how they celebrate their national day. Few of my friends also invited me to different ceremonies held for the event and then celebrations at home. It is just amazing how they celebrate a national day as if it is a Christmas or Easter. They decorate their main streets and building around them. The city is literally illuminated by the lights everywhere of different colors. There is an atmosphere of a carnival and festival around national day. Sale of flags and other items is seen at its peak. You see nearly every home hanging a flag on a pole or outside a window. In few countries I have seen that there is a moment of being still at a particular time while national anthem is played on the national day. Everybody is seen putting their hands on their hearts and singing the national anthem while standing still in respect.
The exterior decorating on the event is quite normal so you must have also seen preparations done by the government but seeing people decorate their interiors is quite a new idea for me. The rooms are usually having flags on the walls of the rooms which are either made of clothes or images of flags on cheap canvas prints ready to hang. In turkey I have seen people having the portrait of their leader Atatürk also hanging somewhere around the house. On the event of national day this portrait is seen almost everywhere you go. At night they have dinner at home for celebrations on which friends and family members are invited. They dance to the traditional music and sing national songs to show their love towards their country as a nation. In USA as well, I have seen people giving great importance to their national day. I have seen people going to get tattoos of the USA flag on their body parts. There too the home exterior is decorated with flags and colorful lights to mark their day on nationhood. It is a fact that USA is a land of immigrants but people who have taken this nationality have come together as a nation though from different part of the world.
