DIY Ideas – Pool Basketball Fun Game

You would agree with me that every coming summer season is getting hotter than the previous one and the really fun time in the summer is either to go to hilly areas or to play water games. Not only children but elders also love to play any type of water games(wiki). Pool Basketball is one of my favorite water games and believe me it is really a fun game. If you also like to play pool basketball or just want to give it a try and you have a crafty sense then here is an idea to make your own pool basketball hoop.

Stuff Required:

  • 3/4″ PVC Tube, 10 feet long (Quantity=2)
  • 3/4″ PVC 45 degree Elbow  (Quantity=16)
  • 3/4″ PVC Tee (Quantity=6)
  • Tubing Cutter
  • Basketball Net or Fish Net as an alternative
  • Cable Ties (Quantity=12 to 15)
  • 3/8″ PEX Tubing, 5 feet long (Quantity=1)
  • 3/8″ PEX Tubing Connector (Quantity=1)
  • Pool Noodle
  • Hacksaw

Instructions:

Prepare Base:

1. Take 3/4″ PVC Tube and use the tubing cutter to cut the 5 pieces in such a way that if fixed between two elbows then length of PVC between edges of elbows is 9″.

2. Similarly cut the 6 pieces of 3/4″ PVC Tube in such a way that if fixed between one elbow and one tee then the length of PVC between the edges of elbow and tee is 4″.

3. Cut 5 pieces of pool noodle 9″ long, using the hacksaw. Carefully put each PVC, cut in step 1, into the hole of each noodle, and place noodle in center of the PVC.

4. Now take all the pieces prepared in step 2 and 3 along with 8 Elbows and 3 Tees. Arrange all these into the form of octagon, as shown in figure 1.

Prepare Top:

5. Take the 3/8″ PEX Tubing and Fish net and insert the PEX Tubing into the pocket of Fishnet that follows the circumference of the net.

6. Take the 3/8″ PEX Tubing connector and join the both ends of PEX Tubing, making a circle shape.

7. Take 3/4″ PVC Tube and cut the 5 pieces in such a way that if fixed between two elbows then length of PVC between edges of elbows is 6″.

8. Similarly cut the 6 pieces of 3/4″ PVC Tube in such a way that if fixed between one elbow and one tee then the length of PVC between the edges of elbow and tee is 2-1/2″.

9.  Now take all the pieces prepared in step 7 and 8 along with 8 Elbows and 3 Tees. Arrange all these into the form of octagon, as shown in figure 2.

11. Blue arrows in figure 3 shows the cable ties and yellow arrow shows the ZIP tie ends properly holding the net and PEX Tubing. Red arrow shows the PEX Tubing connector.

Join Base and Top:

12. Both, base and Top sections have 3 Tees in the arrangement. These Tees will be used to connect the both sections.

13. Cut three pieces of PVC Tube 20 inches long. Place these 3 pieces of tubes into the tees of base and top octagons, joining them together.

14. And finally your pool basketball hoop is ready. You can let it float and roam in your pool or can tie to an end if required.

15. I hope you would love to play this game in your pool or if you think it is difficult to prepare your own then you can also purchase it from market or any online retailer like westsidewholesale.

Recommendations:

1. Don’t glue the parts permanently so that it can be disassembled and stored easily or if any part is damaged then it can be replaced without any hassle.

2. You can change the sizes of octagon as per your requirement. If the size of the base octagon would be wider then it would not flip over in case the ball hits the base.

3. If you require then you can make the hole in the fish net so that it would be open from bottom.
