Handmade Chimineas (Crafted Clay Chimineas)
Handmade Chimineas have been used in South and Central America for hundreds of years. Hand crafted from clay, iron or terracotta, these amazing pieces of cultural history and outdoor design, are amazing to add an interesting twist to any garden.
The best thing about handmade goods is their individuality and quirkiness, and handmade chimineas really won’t disappoint. If you’ve ever been to a country where one of the fire bowls originated, you’ll know they literally come in every colour and design from gaudy, exotic bright colours, to elegant and modest designs.
The clay is hand crafted and then set into a whole variety of different shapes and designs, and then it’s fired as per. Afterwards what usually happens is extra clay overlays are added to the clay chiminea, creating a gorgeous effect. The darker clay underneath sets of the outer layer’s outer design brilliantly. Usually this clay is a different shade or a different colour to make it really stand out. The best thing about this is that it makes no two Chimineas the same.
Not only are they ethically sourced, but a chiminea is also really environmentally friendly. You can use wood from your garden to fuel it, it gives off a kinder carbon emission than coal smoke, and also the ash which is left over afterwards makes really amazing fertiliser as it’s really rich in carbon and nitrogen.
You can also use your handmade chimineas for a really rustic barbecue. Most come with space for a grill, and if not you can get your hands on chiminea accessories pretty easily. The clay and wood smoke gives your food a wonderful rich, earthen flavour, and best of all; the fire bowl itself will keep you and your friends and family warm well into the night.
A new trend has also arisen to keep these charming heating devices inside- not ever using them for their intend reason inside that it (safety first). People have actually begun using them as flower pots for indoor or tropical creeping plants, as they talk to the clay really well, and chase the light which comes down the chute, so you get a chiminea which over flows beautifully with flora and fauna.
There are loads of really great craft ideas you can use to spruce up your garden. Handmade chimineas aren’t necessarily the cheapest. And it’s unlikely you’ll be able to make it yourself, but it’s definitely worth it!
Good morning,
Can I order the Red Grapes Cozumel BBQ Clay Chiminea? How much does it cost and do you ship to Canada?
Thanks
Sabine
