Handmade Hair Accessories
We can’t say that there are some particular hair accessories that are more practical than others. Everything depends on your personal preferences and your individual hair shape in order to make it look glamorous.
The best part is that nowadays there is great variety of hair accessories that you can use in order to make your hair look great. Of course, the choice of hair accessories for your everyday life depends on your job and presence in society, so you must be careful what you use.
First, start with the choice of a proper hairstyle that suits your face shape and personality. Then comes the choice of the right hair accessories. You can find them in any specialized accessory store or, if you want to have more original ones, you can make them yourselves. And the best part is that you can “recycle” some old materials and bring a new life to your old hairpins, diadems and other hair accessories, making a great hobby out of that.
Here are some easy but great hair accessories that you can do yourself in order to add some personal style in your hairstyles.
A sock bun
You have not heard of the sock bun magic? Think twice. We bet that you have already seen those gorgeous, voluminous hair buns and have dream of having one of your own. We have the perfect solution for that.
Make yourself the “doughnut” which is used for this hair bun. You will need just a couple of old socks as well as an old pantihose. Here is how you can do it yourself:
-
Grab a pair of old clean socks, cut the fingers area and start rolling them from the outside to the inside, forming a doughnut.
-
As soon as you are finished with the first sock, add the other one; just keep rolling.
-
Remember that the more socks you add, the bigger you hair doughnut will become.
-
The last thing you should do in order to make your hair doughnut more even, is to put the pantihose on top. Cut a part of an old pantihose and then roll it on top of the socks.
Fabric hair-clips
You will need a little patience, some fabric in different colours, a small piece of felt and a couple of ordinary hair-clips. The idea is to add some volume to the hair-clip in order to make it more noticeable and interesting. How can you do that?
-
Put your hair-clip on the felt and cut it directly in the same shape.
-
Then cut a small piece of the fabric which is a bit larger than the hair-clip and put the piece of felt on the piece of clothing.
-
Make sure that the piece of felt is standing steady on the fabric and suture the fabric with a thread in the same colour. Don’t worry if you don’t make it look perfect the first time – it just takes a little practice, but as soon you get the hang of it, you will have some gorgeous hair accessories.
A flower diadem
There is a great variety of flower diadems on the market, but they are often too expensive, and you are not always to find a diadem, matching colour with your outfit perfectly. If you want to have a flower diadem, you can make it yourselves. Here is how you can do that:
-
You need a headband, some fake flowers, a glue gun and a pair of scissors. If you don’t want to use fake flowers, you can do some fabric ones instead. My personal opinion is that fabric flowers look more natural and more spectacular than fake ones, but still, the choice is all yours.
-
Anyway, as soon you have the flowers and you have once cut their heads in case you are using fake ones, use the hot glue gun in order to attach them to the headband. Press until you are sure the flowers are attached tightly and you are done. You can now enjoy your marvelous flower diadem.
