Top 5 Creative DIY Bathroom Decorations Ideas
DIY projects are bigger than ever these days, and why not? Why spend big money on pre-made items that fit a certain status quo when you can be creative and bring your own unique ideas to life. Home renovations are a great opportunity to start whipping up some of these fantastic ideas. How about the bathroom renovations? This room is used more often than any other room in the house, so why not show some of your creative flare in here. The next time you decide to renovate your bathroom, try any of these creative DIY bathroom decorations ideas.
1. Repurposed Desk Vanity
Do you have an old wooden desk or even an old wooden kitchen table sitting in the garage? Well this idea will put that perfectly good piece of furniture to work. If you have a wall mounted sink and are looking for a way to change up the look, try converting that old desk into a custom made vanity. Measure how far your sink sticks out from the wall and then measure the width of your desk. Find the mark that would give you an appropriate amount of “counter” space. This mark is where you will be cutting the back end of the desk off. You will want to leave only two front legs so that when you combine the sink and the desk it will look as if your new vanity were always made that way!
2. Window Box Towel Holder
This is a fantastic idea to display your lovely bath towels for guests and to make them easily accessible. Simply take an old flower or window box (these are very inexpensive when you buy them at the end of the season at garden centers), and finish it to match your bathroom decorations using paint or stains of your choice. Mount your window box either under your bathroom window or anywhere else on the wall that is convenient and voila! Simply roll your towels and stuff them into the box and it’s done!
3. River Rock Wall
This particular idea is great for the cozier type homes or cottages. You receive the same warm, eclectic feel of expensive exposed rock room designs without paying an arm and a leg! The best wall for this would be the wall behind the mirror and vanity, as this acts as a natural focal point for the bathroom. All it takes is some tile grout and a bag of river stones from your local hardware store or garden centre. Simply apply the grout to the wall and place the stones in whatever design you wish. Since this is such a natural looking piece, there is no guidelines to how the rocks should be placed – whatever works for you is best!
4. Ledges and Mirrors
This bathroom decor idea is great for any size bathroom and it can be customized to suit your current bathroom design. Everyone knows that you can’t have a proper bathroom without a mirror, so why stop at one? Rather than having the typical over the sink mirror, why not make a wall of mirrors in different designs and shapes? Simply purchase some pine or other inexpensive wood from your hardware store and paint it to the colour you desire. Next, find a few mirrors in various shapes and designs from a vintage or second hand shop and give them a good cleaning. Mount your pine rails to the wall of your choice and simply rest the mirrors on the ledges to be displayed like your favourite pieces of art!
5. Mismatched Tile Backsplash
Finally, this creative idea is so imperfect that it will look like it was meant to be. As a backsplash for your bathroom sink area, consider tiling using mismatched tiles all over. Use scrap tiles from other rooms, or go to a tile manufacturer and inquire about their miscoloured or defected tiles (defected tiles usually look perfectly good, but are “defected” because they didn’t match exactly what the buyer wanted), which you may be able to take off their hands for cheap! Don’t worry about mixing random colours and patterns. Just try to choose tiles that are similar in thickness. This mismatching on purpose will just look like an ingenious eclectic style that will be completely one of a kind!
