How to Work the Maxi Dress This Summer
If you want to have a great summer wardrobe, then a maxi dress must be at the heart of it. These floor length, figure-enhancing dresses are great; they balance your shape and add a sophisticated, elegant and feminine touch to your appearance.
I’ll try to give you some hints for how to make your maxi dress work for you this season.
For everyday wear, dressing the maxi dress down with a light-weight knit and flat-heeled shoe is a super cool look. Whether you are doing errands, picking up the kids, meeting a friend or shopping, the maxi is versatile enough to cope. Try wearing a blue maxi dress with a pair of black glitter two-part sandals. Balance the look by covering your shoulders with a black cotton bolero. To refresh your outfit from day to day, just add a statement necklace. There are plenty to choose from out there.
If you are petite then many dresses are probably just too long for you. Personally, I find it hard to choose a maxi dress for my petite figure. Go for an ideal length that comes down somewhere between your ankle and the top of your foot. If it’s any longer then you’ll end up having to carry your dress; any shorter than that and you will look too squared-off. Look for a dress that is calf length for an average woman, to find the right length for you. This will reduce the likelihood of you needing to have the dress altered. Heels will instantly add height and elongate your figure, so invest in a pair of pretty heels to wear with the maxi dress.
From the everyday, let’s move to social events. Suppose that you are heading out to meet a friend for a casual lunch date. We can smarten up the everyday look a little. Try a fitted, brightly coloured feminine piece, something like a print maxi dress, perhaps with a vibrant pattern and a button-up neckline. Then add a feature like a shrug for lighter afternoons and finish the outfit with, say, nude espadrille flat-forms. Here’s another style tip: flat-forms are a good way to add height and they aren’t uncomfortable.
Maxi dresses are perfect for special occasions, such as weddings, parties, formal dinners, barbecues, and the like. Try something like a floral print maxi dress with a collared upper to keep things smart, or a white maxi dress with a chiffon texture that is lightweight and flattering. I’d style mine with some gold weave sandals and a couple of well chosen bracelets. Add a large clutch purse to this outfit and you are good to go.
So there you have it, lots of different ways to style your gorgeous maxi dress this summer! Enjoy!
